Consulting Engineer – PowerBI/Data Engineering

As a Consulting Data Engineer with a primary focus on Power BI, you will design and deliver advanced analytics and reporting solutions that empower clients to make data-driven decisions. You will translate complex business requirements into scalable data models, pipelines, and interactive dashboards. While Power BI expertise is central to this role, experience with other BI platforms such as SSRS and Tableau is also valued, as many clients leverage multiple reporting tools.

 

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Architecture

  • Design, implement, and optimize data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to support analytics and reporting needs.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and scalability across multiple sources and platforms.
  • Apply best practices for data ingestion, transformation, and storage.

Power BI Development

  • Build interactive dashboards, reports, and data models using Power BI.
  • Develop advanced DAX calculations and implement row-level security for sensitive data.
  • Support integration or migration of reporting systems such as SSRS and Tableau into cohesive BI solutions.
  • Advise clients on best-fit use cases for different BI platforms where appropriate.

Solution Design & Delivery

  • Translate business requirements into data-driven solutions aligned with industry best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership on BI projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define KPIs and visualization strategies.

Governance & Best Practices

  • Implement Power BI governance frameworks, including workspace management and data access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory data standards.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing within the team.

 

Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or Azure Data Engineer Associate.

Experience:

    • 3–5 years in data engineering, BI development, or analytics consulting.
    • Proven track record in Power BI solution design and deployment.

Skills:

    • Strong proficiency in SQL, DAX, Power Query, and data modeling.
    • Familiarity with Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Synapse) is a plus.

Interpersonal Qualities:

    • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
